Modding Noob

I'm wanting to get into modding. I found a used JTAG'ed jasper for $180, but I want to RGH my Corona V3 so I can get a better comprehension of how the hardware works. I could order the parts for the corona for $70-$80, but I take the risk of destroying my motherboard since it would be my first time ever doing something like this.

I though that if I RGH'ed my corona I wouldn't be able to go online, this is why I wanted to buy the JTAG'ed Jasper. Recently I saw lobby hosts on se7ensins...
